On Friday, February 19, 2016, the United States Agency for International Development's Southern Africa Mission along with the Regional Economic Growth Office (REGO) and the Southern Africa Trade Hub celebrated five plus years of project implementation and success with a handover ceremony in Pretoria at the USAID Regional Mission.
The Southern Africa Trade Hub presented to USAID/Southern Africa Mission Director Cheryl Anderson and Deputy Mission Director Littleton Tazewell a complete set of 53 binders representing the last 18 months of the program's notable regional and national achievements in the areas of trade facilitation, business enabling environment, agriculture, communications, clean energy, and textiles and apparel.
Recent highlights of the Southern Africa Trade Hub’s accomplishments include finalization of the Comprehensive Trade Facilitation Program (CTFP) with the Southern African Development Community (SADC), creation of a Trade Information Portal in Namibia, establishment of the first private sector Warehouse Receipts System (WRS) in Mozambique with Cargill and local banks using Oracle software, drafting of a Renewable Energy Feed in Tariff (REFIT) to promote clean energy development in Zambia, and support to the third annual Source Africa apparel trade show in Cape Town, South Africa.
