Trade Hub Appointed to Two SADC-EU Steering Committees

On September 17, 2015, USAID’s Southern Africa Trade Hub participated in the SADC Regional Economic Integration Support Programme (REIS) and SADC Trade Related Facility (TRF) Steering Committee meetings in Gaborone, Botswana. The role of the steering committees is to evaluate and recommend applications from Member States for support under the two programs.

Trade Hub Supports SADC with National Action Programs on Investment in Member States

SADC has requested support from USAID’s Southern Africa Trade Hub to carry forward their regional investment policy framework program. After five years of development in cooperation with the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the EU, the SADC Secretariat has completed a regional investment policy framework that will be formally adopted on July 22, 2015 in Johannesburg.

Truck Monitoring System – Southern and Eastern Africa

The Truck Monitoring System (TMS) is a web-based platform operated by South African supply chain management company, Crickmay & Associates (Crickmay). Crickmay has agreements with over a dozen major Global Positioning System (GPS) tracking companies, whose partnerships with transporters allow Crickmay to obtain billions of raw data points related to commercial transport across Southern and Eastern Africa. Republic of Congo, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, South Africa, South Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. In addition, TMS provides data on border crossing and total transport times for nearly 3,000 routes that encompass 10 major trade corridors and 294 borders, ports, and major economic areas. TMS focuses on choke points, including include border crossings, dry ports, way-bridges, sea/river ports, and major cities to identify potential bottlenecks.
