Change Management Training for National Single Window in Malawi Prepares Government and Private Sector for Key Trade Facilitation Tool

From May 19-21, participants from nine different government and private sector stakeholder agencies were given Change Management Training on National Single Window by the Trade Hub. The training was designed to prepare relevant officials in Malawi for the successful implementation of National Single Window (NSW), which will allow parties involved in trade and transport to submit all trade-related documents via a single electronic entry point to reduce the time and cost of trade.

Lesotho, Malawi and Zambia Trained on ISO National Mirror Committees

The Trade Hub, in partnership with the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), conducted a three-day workshop on the running of International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Technical Committees National Mirror Committees. The workshop was held in Maseru for a total of 15 participants from Lesotho, Malawi, and Zambia and was facilitated by two ANSI and three ISO technical committee experts from the U.S. ISO is the largest developer and distributor of standards in the world. National Standards Bodies of individual countries can establish “mirror committees” to coordinate with international standards and disseminate information quickly to their national stakeholders

Success of Coordinated Border Management Assessed in Malawi

The Trade Hub is currently engaged in an evaluation exercise for its Coordinated Border Management (CBM) activity. CBM was designed to encourage better cooperation and coordination among agencies working at the borders to simplify the clearance of goods and reduce the time that and the JBCs were functioning effectively.

Lesotho, Malawi and Zambia Establish National Enquiry Points for Trade Information
USAID’s Southern Africa Trade Hub is providing technical assistance support to Lesotho, Malawi, and Zambia to establish an effective World Trade Organization (WTO) Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Enquiry Point and Notification Authority.

The first phase of technical assistance involved capacity building workshops in December 2013.
