Production Manager Chisanga Shula and Marketing Director Joshua Shonga, COMACO in Chipata, ZambiaCOMACO (Community Markets for Conservation) in Chipata, Zambia has increased output of its peanut butter product by threefold since the addition of new threshing, drying, and bottling equipment procured through a Strategic Partnership Grant from USAID’s Southern Africa Trade Hub.

COMACO sells its peanut butter through small outlets as well as major supermarkets like Pick n Pay, Shoprite, and Spar. With growing demand for the “It’s Wild” peanut butter across Zambia, COMACO hopes to begin exporting its popular products to South Africa and throughout the SADC region in 2016.

COMACO’s mission is to provide marketing services, trade benefits, and extension support to incentivize farmers to adopt improved land use and better farming practices, promoting conservation and a better quality of life for small-scale farmers. “It’s Wild!” food products use all natural raw ingredients produced sustainably in Zambia by the 20,000 small-scale farmers COMACO supports with extension services and inputs.

The Trade Hub is also supporting COMACO to achieve HACCP status for its peanut butter production to gain access to regional export markets
