Ranga Munyaradzi
Senior Customs Advisor
Ranga Munyaradzi has been the Senior Customs Advisor at the USAID Southern Africa Trade Hub since 2005, during which time he contributed towards regional economic growth and reduction of poverty through removal of trade constraints and other non-tariff barriers, thus making the region's products more competitive on the global market.
Ranga is a Customs Consultant with more than thirty years' experience in all major Customs disciplines at national, regional and international levels.
Prior to joining the Trade Hub, Ranga was the Head of the Zimbabwe Customs Administration between 1986 and 2002, where he was responsible for the modernization, administration, implementation and interpretation of the Zimbabwe Customs laws and related legislation. During this period he served as Chairman of the East and Southern Africa Region of the World Customs Organization (WCO), where he was instrumental in the adoption and implementation of WTO and WCO Conventions on Customs facilitation in the region, such as the WTO Agreement on Customs Valuation, the WTO Rules of Origin, the Revised Kyoto Convention, the Harmonized Nomenclature and the UNCTAD Automated System for Customs Data (the ASYCUDA program). He also played a major role in the drafting of SADC and COMESA trade facilitation instruments during this period, such as the SADC Protocol on Trade and the COMESA Regional Customs Transit Bond Guarantee.
Between 2002 and 2004, as Customs Transit Specialist at the then Southern Africa Global Competitiveness Hub, Mr. Munyaradzi was responsible for streamlining and harmonization of Customs Procedures, Processes and Documentation in the SADC region, particularly for the pilot projects on the Trans Kalahari Corridor, North-South Corridor and the Dar es Salaam Corridor.
