On December 17, 2015, USAID’s Southern Africa Trade Hub collaborated with the Zambia Bureau of Standards (ZABS); Zambia’s Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry; and the UNIDO Trade Capacity Building Framework to support the inaugural Zambia Annual Quality Awards held at the Intercontinental Hotel in Lusaka.
The Annual Quality Awards recognize and appreciate organizations and individuals who excel in the advancement of quality by supporting measurement and quality systems, procedures, and processes in line with local, regional, and international practices. Zambia is one of seven Southern African Development Community (SADC) Member States that attended the SADC Annual Quality Awards Training Workshop supported by the Southern Africa Trade Hub on September 23-24, 2015 in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The Zambia Annual Quality Awards was officiated by the Deputy Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry, Raymond Mpundu, and attended by industry association representatives, private sector companies, government departments, and academia.
Minister Mpundu noted that the quality awards program is part of a national policy to establish quality infrastructure that meets international standards. He added that the competition could not have come at a better time as the country is aligning its quality infrastructure with international best practices. He thanked USAID’s Southern Africa Trade Hub for supporting the event.
