US Ambassador to Namibia Thomas Daughton USAID’s Southern Africa Trade Hub and its local partner organization, the African Women’s Entrepreneurship Program (AWEP), delivered a Persuasive Communications and Assertiveness Workshop for Women in Business in Windhoek, Namibia, from February 16-18, 2016.

This cutting-edge, interactive three-day training for women business owners and entrepreneurs in Namibia was developed by the Trade Hub in close collaboration with renowned persuasive communications expert from Brown University, Dr. Barbara Tannenbaum, whose global clients include Microsoft, Google, and high profile American politicians.

The workshop incorporated results from regional gender analysis and was tailored to address the specific needs, constraints, concerns, and opportunities experienced by women business owners and entrepreneurs in southern Africa. The skills and techniques covered during the Persuasive Communications workshop will help women in Namibia and the region to transform their societies by successfully owning, running, and operating small and medium businesses, and by becoming voices for social change in their communities.

Women business owners from sectors including retail, tourism, management consulting, manufacturing, law, accounting, and marketing were trained on presentation, negotiation, and many other aspects central to effective communication. Participants also received one-on-one coaching sessions and specific feedback on their sales and business pitches.
