ISO Training in LesothoThe Trade Hub, in partnership with the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), conducted a three-day workshop on the running of International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Technical Committees National Mirror Committees. The workshop was held in Maseru for a total of 15 participants from Lesotho, Malawi, and Zambia and was facilitated by two ANSI and three ISO technical committee experts from the U.S. ISO is the largest developer and distributor of standards in the world. National Standards Bodies of individual countries can establish “mirror committees” to coordinate with international standards and disseminate information quickly to their national stakeholders

The workshop taught participants how to form and operate ISO Technical Committee national mirror committees, understand ISO work programs for developing standards, and identify the key players and operations of specific ISO technical committees of interest to each of the participants’ countries in order to increase participation in the development and use of international standards.

The Trade Hub partners with ANSI to carry out activities in the SADC region under the USAID Partnership for Trade Facilitation (PTF) Standards Alliance program, which provides technical assistance to developing countries to assist them in meeting their commitments to the World Trade Organization (WTO) Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Agreement.
