On June 11, 2015, USAID’s Southern Africa Trade Hub, in collaboration with the Zambia Bureau of Standards (ZABS), held an awareness seminar in Livingstone, Zambia on the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade National Enquiry Point (NEP), which was re-launched in Lusaka in April.
By providing trade and standards-related information from a central point, an NEP is vital to reducing the time and cost of trade. The awareness seminar was aimed at helping the business community and farmer cooperative representatives in and around Livingstone understand the role and functions of the NEP, the functions of ZABS, and the Trade Hub.
The awareness seminar was officially opened by the Guest of Honor, Zambia Southern Province Principal Secretary Sibanje Simuchoba. He acknowledged the support rendered by the Trade Hub in helping Zambia meet its WTO obligations and urged industry players to familiarize themselves with the WTO/TBT Enquiry point to take advantage of the services offered. The event received media coverage from ZNBC TV.
