Students from nine high schools in Swaziland’s four regions came to the SymposiumUSAID’s Southern Africa Trade Hub, in partnership with the Swaziland Standards Authority (SWASA), supported a High Schools Symposium on Standards on June 17, 2015 at the Mavuso Trade Centre in Manzini, Swaziland. The event was attended by over 150 people including the Under Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Titus Khumalo.

The one-day Symposium aimed to create awareness of the importance of standards. Introducing students to the issue at an early age helps influence the implementation of standards and the standards development process in Swaziland through derived demand. The annual event is also designed to create a generation of future standardizers and initiate discussions around standards, which is Swaziland’s vehicle into first world status by 2022. The students delivered presentations on topics relating to standards, with three participants from each school.
