USAID's Southern Africa Trade Hub has engaged an expert to assist six countries in the region establish or reinstate and improve their National Consultative Committees (NCC) to help improve the effectiveness of the operations of the countries’ WTO Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) National Enquiry Point (NEP) and Notification Authorities.
An NCC is composed of representatives from government (ministries, regulatory agencies, departments) and the private sector (business associations, consumer groups, academia, NGOs). NCCs provide a mechanism for consultation and advisory services at the national level and serve to coordinate and oversee the implementation of the WTO TBT Agreement requirements.
During August and September 2015, workshops will be held in Mozambique, Malawi, Lesotho, Zambia, Botswana, and Swaziland - countries where the Trade Hub has been offering assistance with training and capacity building for NEPs over the past two years.
