In Lesotho, the Hub is supporting economic diversification, job creation and fostering a business environment conducive to trade and investment. The Hub implements activities in four critical areas:

Accelerating U.S. and international investment to businesses to promote strategic value chains and grow international trade links

Helping companies to leverage AGOA to increase exports to the U.S.
Enabling Environment and Trade Facilitation
Fostering transparent, reliable, efficient and cost-effective trade policies and related infrastructure
Increasing the competitiveness of agricultural value chains for export through investment, technology transfer, and greater private sector participation

Core Activities in Lesotho
Finance and Investment

  • Assessing and linking potential investment opportunities to U.S. and international investors
  • Assisting Lesotho companies access structured trading products and other financing to invest in enhancing value chains

Export Competitiveness

  • Supporting the National Africa Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) Utilization Strategy
  • Linking export-oriented companies in key sectors such as textile/apparel and specialty foods to potential buyers and investors and inclusion in regional directories
  • Partnering with the Lesotho National Development Corporation (LNDC) to facilitate trade links
  • Promoting awareness of Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production (WRAP) standards
  • Supporting private sector initiatives to increase market transparency and trade in textiles and apparel

Enabling Environment and Trade Facilitation

  • Assisting Lesotho companies and the mohair wool industry association in complying with cross-border pesticides control and grading
  • Supporting the development of an Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) facility to facilitate cross-border trade


  • Supporting the implementation of a Market Information System to disseminate real-time information on staples and non-staples trade
  • Assisting wool and mohair shearing sheds to comply with regional grading and standards
