From November 2-3, 2015, USAID Southern Africa’s Paul Pleva and members of USAID’s Southern Africa Trade Hub held consultations with the Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) in Blantyre and then visited the Mwanza Border Post to meet with various government officials and agencies regarding the development of a National Single Window (NSW) for Malawi.
At the MRA, the delegation met with MRA Executive Management and NSW project staff including the Commissioner General, Deputy Commissioner General, Deputy Director Modernization, and the Modernization Program Manager. MRA is the lead agency for the NSW and has been given the mandate to develop the operational foundation for the NSW with guidance and technical assistance provided by the Trade Hub.
The Trade Hub is supporting the government of Malawi and its various agencies to take ownership of the process, develop their skill base internally, and ultimately implement the NSW with technical inputs and direction from the Hub’s resident advisor and expert consultants. Ongoing work with the MRA is being coordinated with the World Bank, which is assisting with a loan dedicated to NSW implementation.
